SO SUSSEX was founded in June 2009 by Nigel and Maria Greenwood. It is a family run company based in Barcombe, on the edge of South Downs National Park.
The original idea was born in Torres del Paine National Park in Chile over ten years ago. It was further developed high up on the Altiplano in Bolivia and in our campervan in New Zealand, in between snow-boarding and penguin spotting. We were inspired by a range of interesting people we met when travelling, people who had set up small, independent ventures showing others their part of the world. Their love for their local area and their enthusiasm made long lasting impressions on us and we hope to provide you with a similar experience.
A lot has happened in our lives since our back packing days and since we officially started So Sussex. The original idea has developed and grown organically into what So Sussex is today.
Our aim is to offer people a range of enjoyable, educational and fun outdoor experiences in the Sussex countryside. We strive to develop people’s understanding of and appreciation for our local environment through providing activities and events that bring people close to the varied natural landscapes of Sussex in different ways.
We work in partnership with like minded local organisations and a range of wonderfully talented, enthusiastic and professional individuals to deliver amazing experiences. One of our key aims is to provide flexible and enjoyable employment opportunities for people in the area who share our values and visions.
SO SUSSEX is also our way of spending as much time as possible outdoors in an area of England that we love, enjoy and appreciate, but at the same time allow us the flexibility to continue to explore the rest of the world together as a family.
